Extension of Desktop Win/Windows 7/Vista – Series 1

Its a common phenomenon now days to extend the desktop i.e. attach another monitor to your main screen via USB and the desktop can be extended to multiple monitor.

This enables the user to manage his work in a better way. He can move the less useful windows to secondary monitor or songs can continue to play on one monitor and the work on another, or the toolbars of heavy applications can be distributed across multiple monitors.

Further, each monitor can be independently rotated to 90,180 and 270 degrees.

Even small photoframes available from Samsung , Panasonic or Sony can be made to act as a secondary monitor.

Sounds interesting. But, we being engineers are interested in the underlying phenomenon. What has been done behind the scene so as to achieve the multiple desktop functionality.  We will see it in the next article….
